FAQs

How do I donate an artifact? What kinds of items do you accept?
Items specific to Chillicothe and area history, Santa Fe and Rock Island RR memorabilia, photographs, letters and family histories are very welcome. Unique vintage items of all kinds are educational and fun. We are, however, space limited, both in display area and storage. Occasionally we already have multiple examples of a particular item ( this especially applies to military uniforms ). Photographs and scanable paper items can be copied for our archives if the donor wishes to keep the original.

How old does the artifact or photo need to be?
History is being made today; every era has stories to tell!

Can you open the museum(s) for my relatives who are in town for the afternoon?
As with most small town museums, our regular hours are limited. However, we are happy to accommodate “short notice” visits as well as planned tours. Please call any of the contact phone numbers listed on this website or posted at the museum doors.

What about group or class tours?
We’ll need a bit of notice so that we can tailor the visit to the ages and interests of the group, and have knowledgeable docents/guides available to insure a rewarding and educational museum experience.

Can anyone attend Historical Society monthly ( 1st Thursdays) meetings and programs?
The public is always welcome at our entertaining, informative history-oriented monthly programs, often featuring guest speakers. Several times a year our members have a “show-and-tell” evening; always a hit. Discover the joy of lifelong learning!
